羅馬書6:20-23

6:20 因為你們作罪之奴僕的時候，就不被義約束了。

6:21 你們現今所看為羞恥的事，當日有甚麼果子呢？那些事的結局就是死。

6:22 但現今，你們既從罪裡得了釋放，作了上帝的奴僕，就有成聖的果子，那結局就是永生。

6:23 因為罪的工價乃是死；惟有上帝的恩賜，在我們的主基督耶穌裡，乃是永生。

For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

    「生」與「死」在基督信仰裡不是指肉體的生命生和死而已，重要的是，我們是否與上帝連結呢？與上帝連結就是永生，沒有與上帝連結就是死亡。然而人在還沒有信耶穌時的狀況是與上帝隔絕，是沒有連結，是沒有生命，之所以如此是因為罪的緣故。

    耶穌降世的目的，就是要使人離開罪的轄制，成為上帝的兒女。而成為上帝的兒女，就是聖靈將耶穌的拯救實現在我們身上，使我們成為上帝永生國度的一分子。

    因為如此，成為基督徒要靠聖靈的力量與上帝所賜的意志，決定自己靠主而活，一直到進入永生，上帝就恩完全實現之時，享受基督的榮耀。
