11:36 王必任意而行，自高自大，超過所有的神，又用奇異的話攻擊萬神之神。他必行事亨通，直到主的忿怒完畢，因為所定的事必然成就。
11:37 他必不顧他列祖的神，也不顧婦女所羨慕的神，無論何神他都不顧；因為他必自大，高過一切。
11:38 他倒要敬拜保障的神，用金、銀、寶石和可愛之物敬奉他列祖所不認識的神。
11:39 他必靠外邦神的幫助，攻破最堅固的保障。凡承認他的，他必將榮耀加給他們，使他們管轄許多人，又為賄賂分地與他們。
11:40 到末了，南方王要與他交戰。北方王必用戰車、馬兵，和許多戰船，勢如暴風來攻擊他，也必進入列國，如洪水氾濫。
11:41 又必進入那榮美之地，有許多國就被傾覆，但以東人、摩押人，和一大半亞捫人必脫離他的手。
11:42 他必伸手攻擊列國；埃及地也不得脫離。
11:43 他必把持埃及的金銀財寶和各樣的寶物。利比亞人和古實人都必跟從他。

36 "And the king shall do as he wills.
He shall exalt himself and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak
astonishing things against the God of gods. He shall prosper till the
indignation is accomplished; for what is decreed shall be done. 37 He shall pay
no attention to the gods of his fathers, or to the one beloved by women. He
shall not pay attention to any other god, for he shall magnify himself above
all. 38 He shall honor the god of fortresses instead of these. A god whom his
fathers did not know he shall honor with gold and silver, with precious stones
and costly gifts. 39 He shall deal with the strongest fortresses with the help
of a foreign god. Those who acknowledge him he shall load with honor. He shall
make them rulers over many and shall divide the land for a price.
40 "At the time of the end, the king
of the south shall attack him, but the king of the north shall rush upon him
like a whirlwind, with chariots and horsemen, and with many ships. And he shall
come into countries and shall overflow and pass through. 41 He shall come into
the glorious land. And tens of thousands shall fall, but these shall be
delivered out of his hand: Edom and Moab and the main part of the Ammonites. 42
He shall stretch out his hand against the countries, and the land of Egypt
shall not escape. 43 He shall become ruler of the treasures of gold and of
silver, and all the precious things of Egypt, and the Libyans and the Cushites
shall follow in his train. 44 But news from the east and the north shall alarm
him, and he shall go out with great fury to destroy and devote many to
destruction. 45 And he shall pitch his palatial tents between the sea and the
glorious holy mountain. Yet he shall come to his end, with none to help him.

自高自大的王自認超過神並要攻擊上帝，他要得勢獲勝，但結局時無人能幫助他。這一段經文解釋的主要困難是此處的預言與安提阿哥四世並不吻合，那到底這段經文要怎樣看待？安提阿哥四世於主前164年11月遠征帕提亞人時，死在波斯的加巴。比較可能是這個異象先實現在當日的安提阿哥四世身上，末世時又雙重應驗在敵基督身上。
提阿哥四世或者是敵基督？事實上兩者都有可能。因為安提阿哥四世也的確有經文記載的那些特徵，但這些特徵在歷世歷代的統治者間並不罕見，未來的敵基督有這些特徵也不足為奇。
然而敵基督不見得是由指教會外的人，更有可能發生在「名義上」的教會內的人。因為又有許多人靠外表的敬虔欺騙上帝家中的人，他們如同稗子在麥子中間，到末世這樣的人要顯明出來。主耶穌告訴我們要看結局，不要看過程，這事很重要之原則。也因此，我們不管是面對麥子還是稗子，都要用一貫的態度，不要去論斷，讓主自己來辨明，我們只管殷勤栽培每一位弟兄姊妹。
