17:19 耶和華對我如此說：「你去站在平民的門口，就是猶大君王出入的門，又站在耶路撒冷的各門口，
17:20 對他們說：『你們這猶大君王和猶大眾人，並耶路撒冷的一切居民，凡從這些門進入的都當聽耶和華的話。
17:21 耶和華如此說：你們要謹慎，不要在安息日擔甚麼擔子進入耶路撒冷的各門；
17:22 也不要在安息日從家中擔出擔子去。無論何工都不可做，只要以安息日為聖日，正如我所吩咐你們列祖的。』
17:23 他們卻不聽從，不側耳而聽，竟硬著頸項不聽，不受教訓。」
17:24 耶和華說：「你們若留意聽從我，在安息日不擔甚麼擔子進入這城的各門，只以安息日為聖日，在那日無論何工都不做；
17:25 那時就有坐大衛寶座的君王和首領，他們與猶大人，並耶路撒冷的居民，或坐車，或騎馬，進入這城的各門，而且這城必存到永遠。
17:26 也必有人從猶大城邑和耶路撒冷四圍的各處，從便雅憫地、高原、山地，並南地而來，都帶燔祭、平安祭、素祭，和乳香，並感謝祭，到耶和華的殿去。
17:27 你們若不聽從我，不以安息日為聖日，仍在安息日擔擔子，進入耶路撒冷的各門，我必在各門中點火；這火也必燒毀耶路撒冷的宮殿，不能熄滅。」
Thus said the Lord to me: “Go and stand in the People's Gate, by which
the kings of Judah enter and by which they go out, and in all the gates of
Jerusalem, and say: ‘Hear the word of
the Lord, you kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all the inhabitants of
Jerusalem, who enter by these gates.
Thus says the Lord: Take care for the sake of your lives, and do not
bear a burden on the Sabbath day or bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem. And do not carry a burden out of your houses
on the Sabbath or do any work, but keep the Sabbath day holy, as I commanded
your fathers. Yet they did not listen or
incline their ear, but stiffened their neck, that they might not hear and
receive instruction.
“‘But if you listen to me, declares the Lord, and bring in no burden by
the gates of this city on the Sabbath day, but keep the Sabbath day holy and do
no work on it, then there shall enter by
the gates of this city kings and princes who sit on the throne of David, riding
in chariots and on horses, they and their officials, the men of Judah and the
inhabitants of Jerusalem. And this city shall be inhabited forever. And people shall come from the cities of
Judah and the places around Jerusalem, from the land of Benjamin, from the
Shephelah, from the hill country, and from the Negeb, bringing burnt offerings
and sacrifices, grain offerings and frankincense, and bringing thank offerings
to the house of the Lord. But if you do
not listen to me, to keep the Sabbath day holy, and not to bear a burden and
enter by the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will kindle a fire
in its gates, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem and shall not be
quenched.’”

先知耶利米在這裡強調守安息日的必要性。
的確，守安息日是要提醒人需要安息在上帝面前，享受上帝所賜的安息！但是人常常忽略上帝這樣的命令，也因為如此，就破壞了人與上帝應該有的親密與和好的關係，導致人沒有真正的安息。
上帝對人的旨意，就是要享安息！這是人得成為上帝所寶貝的兒女的原因。也因為這樣，人才會尊重別人。因為上帝都如此看重人，要人想安息得滿足！使人感受自己是被看重，是重要的！
人在衡量人常以才能或貢獻度來做標準，但是上帝要我們看重人，是因為人是祂的寶貝！祂甚至為了拯救寶貝的人，而使祂的獨生愛子，降世取了人身，為人的罪死在十字架上，好使人得永遠的安息！
