12:1 耶和華啊，我與你爭辯的時候，你顯為義；但有一件，我還要與你理論：惡人的道路為何亨通呢？大行詭詐的為何得安逸呢？
12:2 你栽培了他們，他們也扎了根，長大，而且結果。他們的口是與你相近，心卻與你遠離。
12:3 耶和華啊，你曉得我，看見我，察驗我向你是怎樣的心。求你將他們拉出來，好像將宰的羊，叫他們等候殺戮的日子。
12:4 這地悲哀，通國的青草枯乾，要到幾時呢？因其上居民的惡行，牲畜和飛鳥都滅絕了。他們曾說：他看不見我們的結局。
12:5 耶和華說：你若與步行的人同跑，尚且覺累，怎能與馬賽跑呢？你在平安之地，雖然安穩，在約旦河邊的叢林要怎樣行呢？
12:6 因為連你弟兄和你父家都用奸詐待你。他們也在你後邊大聲喊叫，雖向你說好話，你也不要信他們。

Righteous are you, O Lord,
when I
complain to you;
yet I
would plead my case before you.
Why does the way of the wicked prosper?
Why do
all who are treacherous thrive?
2 You
plant them, and they take root;
they
grow and produce fruit;
you are
near in their mouth
and far
from their heart.
3 But
you, O Lord, know me;
you see
me, and test my heart toward you.
Pull them out like sheep for the slaughter,
and set
them apart for the day of slaughter.
4 How
long will the land mourn
and the
grass of every field wither?
For the evil of those who dwell in it
the
beasts and the birds are swept away,
because
they said, "He will not see our latter end."
5
"If you have raced with men on foot, and they have wearied you,
how will
you compete with horses?
And if
in a safe land you are so trusting,
what
will you do in the thicket of the Jordan?
6 For
even your brothers and the house of your father,
even
they have dealt treacherously with you;
they are
in full cry after you;
do not
believe them,
though
they speak friendly words to you."

耶利米向上帝質問一個很特別的問題，就是：「惡人的道路為何亨通呢？大行詭詐的為何得安逸呢？」
但是上帝的回答也是很有意思：「連你弟兄和你父家都用奸詐待你。他們也在你後邊大聲喊叫，雖向你說好話，你也不要信他們。」
是啊！在上帝的眼中，每個人都是有罪的，都是詭詐的，都是保護自己而虧待別人的人！更何況對待親人都如此了，別人更不用說了！
也因為這樣，我們不要自以為義來批判別人時，歸罪上帝待惡人較好，對待義人不好！這樣是不合理的！更何況上帝是義的，不是人可以質疑的！質疑上帝是件危險的事，就像上帝在此回答的：「你若與步行的人同跑，尚且覺累，怎能與馬賽跑呢？你在平安之地，雖然安穩，在約旦河邊的叢林要怎樣行呢？」
相信先知這段對話要提醒我們，當我們覺得自己受欺壓，認為別人不義之時，反過來要思考自己是不是也是不義的人呢？也是自私自利的人呢？我們不要將人的不義，歸咎於上帝賜福惡人。反而我們要思考，上帝是公義的，祂必定為受壓迫的人申冤，要耐心等候上帝的時間。因為最後公義必定實現的，而且這是永恆的，就是上帝的國完全實現的時候。然而，上帝的國已經來到了，不義的事將一件一件的備顯明。雖然有許多的震撼，但是這一切終將過去，上帝要掌權了！
