19:1 耶和華如此說：「你去買窯匠的瓦瓶，又帶百姓中的長老和祭司中的長老，
19:2 出去到欣嫩子谷、哈珥西（就是瓦片的意思）的門口那裡，宣告我所吩咐你的話，
19:3 說：『猶大君王和耶路撒冷的居民哪，當聽耶和華的話。萬軍之耶和華─以色列的上帝如此說：我必使災禍臨到這地方，凡聽見的人都必耳鳴；
19:4 因為他們和他們列祖，並猶大君王離棄我，將這地方看為平常，在這裡向素不認識的別神燒香，又使這地方滿了無辜人的血，
19:5 又建築巴力的邱壇，好在火中焚燒自己的兒子，作為燔祭獻給巴力。這不是我所吩咐的，不是我所提說的，也不是我心所起的意。
19:6 耶和華說：因此，日子將到，這地方不再稱為陀斐特和欣嫩子谷，反倒稱為殺戮谷。
19:7 我必在這地方使猶大和耶路撒冷的計謀落空，也必使他們在仇敵面前倒於刀下，並尋索其命的人手下。他們的屍首，我必給空中的飛鳥和地上的野獸作食物。
19:8 我必使這城令人驚駭嗤笑；凡經過的人，必因這城所遭的災驚駭嗤笑。
19:9 我必使他們在圍困窘迫之中，就是仇敵和尋索其命的人窘迫他們的時候，各人吃自己兒女的肉和朋友的肉。』
Thus says the Lord, “Go, buy a potter's earthenware flask, and
take some of the elders of the people and some of the elders of the
priests, and go out to the Valley of the
Son of Hinnom at the entry of the Potsherd Gate, and proclaim there the words
that I tell you. You shall say, Hear the
word of the Lord, O kings of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem. Thus says the
Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I am bringing such disaster upon this
place that the ears of everyone who hears of it will tingle. Because the people have forsaken me and have
profaned this place by making offerings in it to other gods whom neither they
nor their fathers nor the kings of Judah have known; and because they have
filled this place with the blood of innocents,
and have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as
burnt offerings to Baal, which I did not command or decree, nor did it come
into my mind— therefore, behold, days
are coming, declares the Lord, when this place shall no more be called Topheth,
or the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter. And in this place I will make void the plans
of Judah and Jerusalem, and will cause their people to fall by the sword before
their enemies, and by the hand of those who seek their life. I will give their
dead bodies for food to the birds of the air and to the beasts of the
earth. And I will make this city a
horror, a thing to be hissed at. Everyone who passes by it will be horrified
and will hiss because of all its wounds.
And I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and their daughters,
and everyone shall eat the flesh of his neighbor in the siege and in the
distress, with which their enemies and those who seek their life afflict them.’

「欣嫩子谷」是起初猶太人們以嬰孩為祭獻給迦南神摩洛的地方。獻的方法是把嬰孩放在摩洛神像燒紅的雙臂中。約西亞王（
王下 23:10 ）廢除這種可憎的儀式後，這山谷就成為焚燒垃圾的地方。後來此處常常被當作地獄代名詞，因為在地獄裡－火是不滅、蟲是不死的！
上帝透過先知耶利米在此宣告上帝對以色列的審判，使他們知道，上帝是憎惡猶大人竟拜別的神，這是信仰上的姦淫！更何況敬拜是要焚燒自己的兒子，這更是上帝所憤怒的事！人如此糟蹋兒女，倒不如用戰爭來使他們發生飢荒，各人吃自己兒女的肉和朋友的肉。
我們不要以為信任何宗教都一樣，都是勸人為善。非也！許多宗教都是讓人離開創造我們的主，使人沒有得到上帝活水源泉的供應。如何才能的上帝活水泉源的供應呢？不是倚靠宗教大師，不是倚靠自己的修行，要在聖靈的帶領下，倚靠耶穌基督，與上帝建立正確合宜的關係，才可以享受得到的！
