23:1 眾人都起來，把耶穌解到彼拉多面前，
23:2 就告他說：「我們見這人誘惑國民，禁止納稅給凱撒，並說自己是基督，是王。」
23:3 彼拉多問耶穌說：「你是猶太人的王嗎？」耶穌回答說：「你說的是。」
23:4 彼拉多對祭司長和眾人說：「我查不出這人有甚麼罪來。」
23:5 但他們越發極力地說：「他煽惑百姓，在猶太遍地傳道，從加利利起，直到這裡了。」
23:6 彼拉多一聽見，就問：「這人是加利利人嗎？」
23:7 既曉得耶穌屬希律所管，就把他送到希律那裡去。那時希律正在耶路撒冷。
23:8 希律看見耶穌，就很歡喜；因為聽見過他的事，久已想要見他，並且指望看他行一件神蹟，
23:9 於是問他許多的話，耶穌卻一言不答。
23:10 祭司長和文士都站著，極力地告他。
23:11 希律和他的兵丁就藐視耶穌，戲弄他，給他穿上華麗衣服，把他送回彼拉多那裡去。
23:12 從前希律和彼拉多彼此有仇，在那一天就成了朋友。
23:13 彼拉多傳齊了祭司長和官府並百姓，
23:14 就對他們說：「你們解這人到我這裡，說他是誘惑百姓的。看哪，我也曾將你們告他的事，在你們面前審問他，並沒有查出他甚麼罪來；
23:15 就是希律也是如此，所以把他送回來。可見他沒有做甚麼該死的事。
23:16 故此，我要責打他，把他釋放了。」（有古卷加：
23:17 每逢這節期，巡撫必須釋放一個囚犯給他們。）
23:18 眾人卻一齊喊著說：「除掉這個人！釋放巴拉巴給我們！」
23:19 這巴拉巴是因在城裡作亂殺人，下在監裡的。
23:20 彼拉多願意釋放耶穌，就又勸解他們。
23:21 無奈他們喊著說：「釘他十字架！釘他十字架！」
23:22 彼拉多第三次對他們說：「為甚麼呢？這人做了甚麼惡事呢？我並沒有查出他甚麼該死的罪來。所以，我要責打他，把他釋放了。」
23:23 他們大聲催逼彼拉多，求他把耶穌釘在十字架上。他們的聲音就得了勝。
23:24 彼拉多這才照他們所求的定案，
23:25 把他們所求的那作亂殺人、下在監裡的釋放了，把耶穌交給他們，任憑他們的意思行。
Then the whole assembly rose and led him off to Pilate. 2 And they began to accuse him, saying, “We have found this man subverting our nation. He opposes payment of taxes to Caesar and claims to be Messiah, a king.”
3 So Pilate asked Jesus, “Are you the king of the Jews?”
“You have said so,” Jesus replied.
4 Then Pilate announced to the chief priests and the crowd, “I find no basis for a charge against this man.”
5 But they insisted, “He stirs up the people all over Judea by his teaching. He started in Galilee and has come all the way here.”
6 On hearing this, Pilate asked if the man was a Galilean. 7 When he learned that Jesus was under Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who was also in Jerusalem at that time.
8 When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been wanting to see him. From what he had heard about him, he hoped to see him perform a sign of some sort. 9 He plied him with many questions, but Jesus gave him no answer. 10 The chief priests and the teachers of the law were standing there, vehemently accusing him. 11 Then Herod and his soldiers ridiculed and mocked him. Dressing him in an elegant robe, they sent him back to Pilate. 12 That day Herod and Pilate became friends—before this they had been enemies.
13 Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers and the people, 14 and said to them, “You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him. 15 Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing to deserve death. 16 Therefore, I will punish him and then release him.” [17] [a]
18 But the whole crowd shouted, “Away with this man! Release Barabbas to us!” 19 (Barabbas had been thrown into prison for an insurrection in the city, and for murder.)
20 Wanting to release Jesus, Pilate appealed to them again. 21 But they kept shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him!”
22 For the third time he spoke to them: “Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore I will have him punished and then release him.”
23 But with loud shouts they insistently demanded that he be crucified, and their shouts prevailed. 24 So Pilate decided to grant their demand. 25 He released the man who had been thrown into prison for insurrection and murder, the one they asked for, and surrendered Jesus to their will.

主耶穌和祭司長等當權派的宗教領袖之間的事情，本是宗教上的事物；但是，這些人認清自己無權除掉異己，需藉由政治的力量，也就是國家政府的力量，就用政治的理由來控告主耶穌！就告他說：「我們見這人誘惑國民，禁止納稅給凱撒，並說自己是基督，是王。」
既是政治問題，總督彼拉多當然要受理，問耶穌說：「你是猶太人的王嗎？」
然而主耶穌也不躲避，直接回答：「你說的是。」
這也讓總督受不了，因為主耶穌不為自己的無罪申述！這樣的回答也讓總督感受這是宗教問題，不是政治問題！但是無奈民眾力量太大，以至於他也失去了該有的立場！
這也讓我們看見許多的人想利用政治的力量來成就心裏所盼望的，甚至違背真理都不覺得無不妥！因此，保羅要我們為執政掌權者禱告，好讓我們可以敬虔度日！
當然我們不要忘記世上的國一天也會過去，只有上帝的國永遠長存！我們盼望那國快快完全實現，與主永同在！
