2:1 七月二十一日，耶和華的話臨到先知哈該說：
2:2 「你要曉諭猶大省長撒拉鐵的兒子所羅巴伯和約撒答的兒子大祭司約書亞，並剩下的百姓，說：
2:3 你們中間存留的，有誰見過這殿從前的榮耀呢？現在你們看著如何？豈不在眼中看如無有嗎？」
In the seventh month, on the twenty- first
day of the month, the word of the Lord came by the hand of Haggai the prophet, "Speak
now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the
son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to all the remnant of the people, and
say, 'Who is left among you who saw this house in its former glory? How do you
see it now? Is it not as nothing in your eyes?

上帝要他們知道先前的聖殿雖然勝過現在的聖殿，但是在上帝的眼中現在的聖殿，比之前更榮耀。因為這事一群回歸之人，靠主的力量建造起來的聖殿，比之前的殿更榮耀！
