何西阿書7:11-13

7:11 以法蓮好像鴿子愚蠢無知；他們求告埃及，投奔亞述。

7:12 他們去的時候，我必將我的網撒在他們身上；我要打下他們，如同空中的鳥。我必按他們會眾所聽見的懲罰他們。

7:13 他們因離棄我，必定有禍；因違背我，必被毀滅。我雖要救贖他們，他們卻向我說謊。

11 Ephraim is like a dove,

 silly and without sense,

calling to Egypt, going to Assyria.

12 As they go, I will spread over them my net;

I will bring them down like birds of the heavens;

 I will discipline them according to the report made to their congregation.

13 Woe to them, for they have strayed from me!

Destruction to them, for they have rebelled against me!

 I would redeem them,

but they speak lies against me.

    以色列人無知的周旋在埃及與亞述兩大國之間，上帝要懲罰他們。以色列朝廷分成親亞述與親埃及兩派，米拿現親亞述（王上 15:19-20），比加親埃及，何細亞則交替投靠這兩國（王下 17:4）。

    然而不管是亞述或埃及，都是上帝所憎惡的國家，因為他們都不敬拜耶和華，與他們締結盟約，甚至要敬拜他們的神，這是耶和華所不能容忍的，因此「我必按他們會眾所聽見的懲罰他們」。而且「他們因離棄我，必定有禍；因違背我，必被毀滅。我雖要救贖他們，他們卻向我說謊。」

    同樣，教會是以基督的名設立的，同樣不應倚靠世上的強權來存在或宣教，面對迫害教會的政權，不可以屈服，要勇敢抵抗。對於不遵行公義和憐憫的政權，更是要勇敢起來指責，因為教會是上帝在地上的代表，是基督的身體！
