5:1 我要為我所親愛的唱歌，是我所愛者的歌，論他葡萄園的事：我所親愛的有葡萄園在肥美的山岡上。
5:2 他刨挖園子，撿去石頭，栽種上等的葡萄樹，在園中蓋了一座樓，又鑿出壓酒池；指望結好葡萄，反倒結了野葡萄。
5:3 耶路撒冷的居民和猶大人哪，請你們現今在我與我的葡萄園中，斷定是非。
5:4 我為我葡萄園所做之外，還有甚麼可做的呢？我指望結好葡萄，怎麼倒結了野葡萄呢？
5:5 現在我告訴你們，我要向我葡萄園怎樣行：我必撤去籬笆，使它被吞滅，拆毀牆垣，使它被踐踏。
5:6 我必使它荒廢，不再修理，不再鋤刨，荊棘蒺藜倒要生長。我也必命雲不降雨在其上。
5:7 萬軍之耶和華的葡萄園就是以色列家；他所喜愛的樹就是猶大人。他指望的是公平，誰知倒有暴虐（或譯：倒流人血）；指望的是公義，誰知倒有冤聲。
I will sing for the one I love

song about his vineyard:
My loved one had a vineyard
on a fertile hillside.

He dug it up and cleared it of stones
and planted it with the choicest vines.
He built a watchtower in it
and cut out a winepress as well.
Then he looked for a crop of good grapes,
but it yielded only bad fruit.

“Now you dwellers in Jerusalem and people
of Judah,
judge between me and my vineyard.

What more could have been done for my
vineyard
than I have done for it?
When I looked for good grapes,
why did it yield only bad?

Now I will tell you
what I am going to do to my vineyard:
I will take away its hedge,
and it will be destroyed;
I will break down its wall,
and it will be trampled.
6
I will make it a wasteland,
neither pruned nor cultivated,
and briers and thorns will grow there.
I will command the clouds
not to rain on it.”

The vineyard of the Lord Almighty
is the nation of Israel,
and the people of Judah
are the vines he delighted in.
And he looked for justice, but saw
bloodshed;
for righteousness, but heard cries of distress.

上帝原本對以色列的期盼是「好葡萄」，但是結果是「野葡萄」。雖然在結葡萄之前上帝下了許多的苦工：「他刨挖園子，撿去石頭，栽種上等的葡萄樹，在園中蓋了一座樓，又鑿出壓酒池。」
這不是說上帝不知道後果會如此，因為這是比喻性的說法，我們不可以過度的猜想，就會失去先知所要表達的意義。這裡說的是上帝多麼愛以色列人，上帝的心意是期盼以色列人行祂所喜悅的事，結果事與願違，以色列反倒行惡，使上帝不喜悅！但是，上帝仍然不放棄以色列人的！
其實這與「上帝造人原是要彰顯上帝的榮耀，人反倒虧缺上帝的榮耀」的意義相同。所以，我們不可以用上帝會預先知道人會犯罪的角度來思考，這會讓人覺得上帝好像故意創造會犯罪的人，這是不好的說法！
也因為上帝沒有用祂的預知來對待人，祂在揀選人成為他的兒女是沒有條件的，祂是按照自己的慈愛來拯救人脫離罪惡，不管這人是悖逆或順從，雖然皆是悖逆，但是祂卻將救恩賜給悖逆的人，不因為他們悖逆而放棄祂的拯救！這也就是無條件揀選的教義。
