傳道書9:1-12

9:1 我將這一切事放在心上，詳細考究，就知道義人和智慧人，並他們的作為都在上帝手中；或是愛，或是恨，都在他們的前面，人不能知道。
9:2 凡臨到眾人的事都是一樣：義人和惡人都遭遇一樣的事；好人，潔淨人和不潔淨人，獻祭的與不獻祭的，也是一樣。好人如何，罪人也如何；起誓的如何，怕起誓的也如何。
9:3 在日光之下所行的一切事上有一件禍患，就是眾人所遭遇的都是一樣，並且世人的心充滿了惡；活著的時候心裡狂妄，後來就歸死人那裡去了。
9:4 與一切活人相連的，那人還有指望，因為活著的狗比死了的獅子更強。
9:5 活著的人知道必死；死了的人毫無所知，也不再得賞賜；他們的名無人記念。
9:6 他們的愛，他們的恨，他們的嫉妒，早都消滅了。在日光之下所行的一切事上，他們永不再有分了。
9:7 你只管去歡歡喜喜吃你的飯，心中快樂喝你的酒，因為上帝已經悅納你的作為。
9:8 你的衣服當時常潔白，你頭上也不要缺少膏油。
9:9 在你一生虛空的年日，就是上帝賜你在日光之下虛空的年日，當同你所愛的妻，快活度日，因為那是你生前在日光之下勞碌的事上所得的分。
9:10 凡你手所當做的事要盡力去做；因為在你所必去的陰間沒有工作，沒有謀算，沒有知識，也沒有智慧。
9:11 我又轉念：見日光之下，快跑的未必能贏；力戰的未必得勝；智慧的未必得糧食；明哲的未必得資財；靈巧的未必得喜悅。所臨到眾人的是在乎當時的機會。
9:12 原來人也不知道自己的定期。魚被惡網圈住，鳥被網羅捉住，禍患忽然臨到的時候，世人陷在其中也是如此。

So I reflected on all this and concluded that the righteous and the wise and what they do are in God’s hands, but no one knows whether love or hate awaits them. ² All share a common destiny—the righteous and the wicked, the good and the bad,^[a] the clean and the unclean, those who offer sacrifices and those who do not.

As it is with the good,
    so with the sinful;
as it is with those who take oaths,
    so with those who are afraid to take them.

³ This is the evil in everything that happens under the sun: The same destiny overtakes all. The hearts of people, moreover, are full of evil and there is madness in their hearts while they live, and afterward they join the dead. ⁴ Anyone who is among the living has hope^[b]—even a live dog is better off than a dead lion!

⁵ For the living know that they will die,
    but the dead know nothing;
they have no further reward,
    and even their name is forgotten.
⁶ Their love, their hate
    and their jealousy have long since vanished;
never again will they have a part
    in anything that happens under the sun.

⁷ Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for God has already approved what you do. ⁸ Always be clothed in white, and always anoint your head with oil. ⁹ Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love, all the days of this meaningless life that God has given you under the sun—all your meaningless days. For this is your lot in life and in your toilsome labor under the sun. ¹⁰ Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.

¹¹ I have seen something else under the sun:

The race is not to the swift
    or the battle to the strong,
nor does food come to the wise
    or wealth to the brilliant
    or favor to the learned;
but time and chance happen to them all.

¹² Moreover, no one knows when their hour will come:

As fish are caught in a cruel net,
    or birds are taken in a snare,
so people are trapped by evil times
    that fall unexpectedly upon them.

     傳道者這段話語有點像佛家的思考方式：「凡臨到眾人的事都是一樣：義人和惡人都遭遇一樣的事；好人，潔淨人和不潔淨人，獻祭的與不獻祭的，也是一樣。好人如何，罪人也如何；起誓的如何，怕起誓的也如何。在日光之下所行的一切事上有一件禍患，就是眾人所遭遇的都是一樣。」「見日光之下，快跑的未必能贏；力戰的未必得勝；智慧的未必得糧食；明哲的未必得資財；靈巧的未必得喜悅。所臨到眾人的是在乎當時的機會。原來人也不知道自己的定期。魚被惡網圈住，鳥被網羅捉住，禍患忽然臨到的時候，世人陷在其中也是如此。」

    人的確是要面對到各樣不可確定的變數，甚至於這一刻好好，下一刻怎樣都不知道，在這樣感覺「無常」，有時不知如何面對！即使事瞭悟生死的大師，也是無法敵過「無常」的命運！

    但是基督徒知道上帝仍然在掌權，我們無時無刻不是活在上帝的權能之中，世事雖然是「無常」。但是，基督徒相信：這個「無常」狀態，有一天會過去，只有上帝的國事永不震動與安定的，而這個安定的國使我們面對無常時，內心仍然安定！正如約翰福音中說到：「我將這些事告訴你們，是要叫你們在我裡面有平安。在世上，你們有苦難；但你們可以放心，我已經勝了世界。」（16:33）

傳道書8:16-17

8:16 我專心求智慧，要看世上所做的事。（有晝夜不睡覺不闔眼的。）
8:17 我就看明上帝一切的作為，知道人查不出日光之下所做的事；任憑他費多少力尋查，都查不出來，就是智慧人雖想知道，也是查不出來。

¹⁶ When I applied my mind to know wisdom and to observe the labor that is done on earth—people getting no sleep day or night— ¹⁷ then I saw all that God has done. No one can comprehend what goes on under the sun. Despite all their efforts to search it out, no one can discover its meaning. Even if the wise claim they know, they cannot really comprehend it.

    傳道者在這裡要讓人知道，即使是自以為有智慧的人，也不能完全明白世間的各樣事情。這也就是告訴我們，面臨到現實的問題，不要自以為是，自以為都知道，反倒要謙卑來倚靠上帝！

    也因為這樣，我們不要以為有成就的成功人士會比較清楚狀況，他們其實也是不清楚，只是比別人殷勤努力，多承受更多的挫折，但是他們不放棄，最後做出一點成果來。

    也因此，我們不要以為智慧和方法是萬靈丹，反倒是勇氣與堅持，是有所成果的重要原因！我們要鍛鍊的，反倒是一顆不放棄的心，在一次次的打擊之後，仍然堅定站立，不斷突破，就會有所斬獲，得著上帝的眷顧！

傳道書8:15

我就稱讚快樂，原來人在日光之下，莫強如吃喝快樂；因為他在日光之下，上帝賜他一生的年日，要從勞碌中，時常享受所得的。

So I commend the enjoyment of life, because there is nothing better for a person under the sun than to eat and drink and be glad. Then joy will accompany them in their toil all the days of the life God has given them under the sun.

    現代中文譯本的翻譯如下：「所以，我認為人應該享樂；因為在太陽底下他所有的樂趣不外吃、喝、享受。這是人在上帝所賜短暫的生命中勞碌所應得的一點享受。」

    這樣的翻譯十分傳神，也非常實在。既然現實的狀態不能讓人滿意，但是人生苦短，倒不如及時行樂，好好的「吃、喝、享受」！不要探究許多想不通的事，好好讓自己在短暫和勞碌的生命中得到一點享受，來獎賞一下自己，使自己更有努力的動力！

    其實人生的動力就是來自快樂，越快樂就會越努力，就會越不怕困難！所以，我們要靠主常常喜樂，讓我們繼續勇敢向前，這也是基督信仰的傳遞方式，許多人之所以信主，就是被主所賜的喜樂所感染和吸引！

傳道書8:14

世上有一件虛空的事，就是義人所遭遇的，反照惡人所行的；又有惡人所遭遇的，反照義人所行的。我說，這也是虛空。

¹⁴ There is something else meaningless that occurs on earth: the righteous who get what the wicked deserve, and the wicked who get what the righteous deserve. This too, I say, is meaningless.

    傳道者在這裡說到一個現實狀況，「就是義人所遭遇的，反照惡人所行的；又有惡人所遭遇的，反照義人所行的」。這就是說，好人沒有好報，壞人也沒有壞報。讓他感覺這樣的現實狀態是沒有意義的，是一件虛空的事！

    然而我們知道：雖然現實狀態是如此，但是上帝卻仍然在掌權！因為，人的一切做為全在上帝的鑒察之下，上帝有一天必定查問，人都要一一招供出來，一一被曝光在上帝面前。雖然一時好像作惡沒有關係，但是在永恆裡做惡卻要遭上帝永遠的憤怒。所以上帝並不是不在意，只是要給人悔改的機會。

    因此，不管上帝現在有沒有報應，我們都要敬畏上帝，行上帝所喜悅的事，靠耶穌基督成為上帝眼中的義人。因為，上帝在基督裡為我們建立了一個法則，就是「因信稱義」！

傳道書8:11-13

8:11 因為斷定罪名不立刻施刑，所以世人滿心作惡。
8:12 罪人雖然作惡百次，倒享長久的年日；然而我準知道，敬畏上帝的，就是在他面前敬畏的人，終久必得福樂。
8:13 惡人卻不得福樂，也不得長久的年日；這年日好像影兒，因他不敬畏上帝。

¹¹ When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, people’s hearts are filled with schemes to do wrong. ¹² Although a wicked person who commits a hundred crimes may live a long time, I know that it will go better with those who fear God, who are reverent before him. ¹³ Yet because the wicked do not fear God, it will not go well with them, and their days will not lengthen like a shadow.

    傳道者在這裡說到「敬畏上帝」是禍福的關鍵所在。雖然不敬畏上帝的人，似乎比較長壽；但是，不敬畏上帝的人的年歲，好像影兒一般。因為，不敬畏上帝，生命就沒有意義，就像影子是不實在的事物。

    所以，我們要我們的生命成為實在且有意義，就必須要「敬畏上帝」。然而怎樣的人是敬畏上帝的人呢？就是願意照上帝的旨意，接受耶穌基督為救主的人，讓祂成為我們生命的主。如此，才能得到上帝接納，成為上帝的兒女！

    這是今日我們實踐「敬畏上帝」方式，也唯有這樣，我們才能成為討上帝喜悅的人。因為「敬畏上帝」就是討上帝的喜悅，而上帝喜悅我們，不是靠我們的行為，而是透過耶穌基督，這是上帝所預備的「天梯」。
