14:17 你要將這話對他們說：願我眼淚汪汪，晝夜不息，因為我百姓（原文是民的處女）受了裂口破壞的大傷。
14:18 我若出往田間，就見有被刀殺的；我若進入城內，就見有因饑荒患病的；連先知帶祭司在國中往來，也是毫無知識（或譯：不知怎樣才好）。
14:19 你全然棄掉猶大嗎？你心厭惡錫安嗎？為何擊打我們，以致無法醫治呢？我們指望平安，卻得不著好處；指望痊癒，不料，受了驚惶。
14:20 耶和華啊，我們承認自己的罪惡，和我們列祖的罪孽，因我們得罪了你。
14:21 求你為你名的緣故，不厭惡我們，不辱沒你榮耀的寶座。求你追念，不要背了與我們所立的約。
14:22 外邦人虛無的神中有能降雨的嗎？天能自降甘霖嗎？耶和華─我們的上帝啊，能如此的不是你嗎？所以，我們仍要等候你，因為這一切都是你所造的。
14:17
And thou shalt say this word unto them, Let mine eyes run down with
tears night and day, and let them not cease; for the virgin daughter of
my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous wound.
14:18 If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the
sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with
famine! for both the prophet and the priest go about in the land and
have no knowledge.
14:19 Hast thou utterly rejected Judah? hath thy soul loathed Zion? why
hast thou smitten us, and there is no healing for us? We looked for
peace, but no good came; and for a time of healing, and behold dismay!
14:20 We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers: for we have sinned against thee.
14:21 Do not abhor us, for thy name’s sake; do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us.
14:22 Are there any among the vanities of the heathen that can cause
rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O LORD our God?
therefore we will wait upon thee; for thou hast made all these things.

上帝雖然恨惡罪惡，但是上帝是愛祂的百姓，不喜悅祂的百姓陷溺罪中，希望他們能夠離棄罪惡，遵守祂所頒佈的律例和典章，也就是聖經的教導，活出上帝子民應有的樣式。
雖然上帝因為猶大人不斷的犯罪，要求先知不要為猶大的百姓代求，其實上帝還是心裡為猶大百姓憂傷，祂透過先知向猶大百姓宣告自己內心的難過，為他們的惡行將受到懲罰而哭泣！
其實，上帝也希望我們如此來展現對那些未信主的同胞的關心，因為人若不透過耶穌基督與上帝有正確和合一的關係，下場也就是滅亡！上帝並不願意按自己形象所造的人，遭受這樣的永死之苦，我們屬上帝的人，也要體認上帝這樣的心懷，要將拯救的福音向世人宣講，好使他們真的願意悔改和接受救恩！
