2:8 在伯利恆郊外，有些牧羊人夜間露宿，輪流看守羊群。

這對牧羊人而言，是好奇怪之宣告。因為，他們並非是先知，也不是祭司，更不是君王。這樣重要之消息，竟然先告訴他們。
當然，這也要告訴我們，上帝是每個人的上帝，祂更是看顧卑微貧苦的人。被人欺壓、被人忽略、被人藐視的人，反而是上帝所看重的！
羅馬書十二章十六節：「要彼此同心。不要志氣高大，倒要俯就卑微的人。不要自以為聰明。」
耶穌基督的降生，正是「俯就卑微」之最佳模範。今日教會要復興，就是要「俯就卑微」，如同主耶穌，關心孤苦流離，廣大受苦的民眾，這就是「聖誕精神」。
