7:23 我曾用智慧試驗這一切事；我說，要得智慧，智慧卻離我遠。
7:24 萬事之理，離我甚遠，而且最深，誰能測透呢？
7:25 我轉念，一心要知道，要考察，要尋求智慧和萬事的理由；又要知道邪惡為愚昧，愚昧為狂妄。
7:26 我得知有等婦人比死還苦：她的心是網羅，手是鎖鍊。凡蒙上帝喜悅的人必能躲避她；有罪的人卻被她纏住了。
7:27 傳道者說：「看哪，一千男子中，我找到一個正直人，但眾女子中，沒有找到一個。」我將這事一一比較，要尋求其理，我心仍要尋找，卻未曾找到。

7:29 我所找到的只有一件，就是上帝造人原是正直，但他們尋出許多巧計。
23 All this I tested by wisdom and I said,
“I am determined to be wise”—
but
this was beyond me.
24 Whatever exists is
far off and most profound—
who
can discover it?
25 So I turned my mind
to understand,
to
investigate and to search out wisdom and the scheme of things
and to understand the stupidity of wickedness
and
the madness of folly.
26 I find more bitter than death
the
woman who is a snare,
whose heart is a trap
and
whose hands are chains.
The man who pleases God will escape her,
but
the sinner she will ensnare.
27 “Look,” says the Teacher,[b] “this is what I have discovered:
“Adding one thing to another to
discover the scheme of things—
28 while I
was still searching
but
not finding—
I found one upright man among a thousand,
but
not one upright woman among them all.
29 This only have I
found:
God
created mankind upright,
but
they have gone in search of many schemes.”

傳道者沒有歧視女性的意義，雖然在此他說到：「看哪，一千男子中，我找到一個正直人，但眾女子中，沒有找到一個」。但是他最後仍說：「上帝造人原是正直，但他們尋出許多巧計」。所以，不只是指女性沒有正直，而是普遍說到人都不正直！這也就是說到，人都是受到罪惡的扭曲。
也因為人都是受到罪惡的扭曲，所以人都是因邪惡而愚昧，因愚昧而狂妄！也因為如此，人無法得著智慧。甚至有心要得智慧的時候，智慧卻偏偏要遠離。於是要萬事之理時，反而是無法測透！
故此，人需要聖靈的作為，使我們得重生，讓我們願意接受耶穌基督為救主，聖靈才會內住在我們心中，此時聖靈才會將靈明賞賜給我們，正如保羅所說：「如經上所記：上帝為愛他的人所預備的是眼睛未曾看見，耳朵未曾聽見，人心也未曾想到的。只有上帝藉著聖靈向我們顯明了，因為聖靈參透萬事，就是上帝深奧的事也參透了。除了在人裡頭的靈，誰知道人的事？像這樣，除了上帝的靈，也沒有人知道上帝的事。我們所領受的，並不是世上的靈，乃是從上帝來的靈，叫我們能知道上帝開恩賜給我們的事。」（哥林多前書2:9-12）
