創世記2:4-7

2:4 創造天地的來歷，在耶和華上帝造天地的日子，乃是這樣，
2:5 野地還沒有草木，田間的菜蔬還沒有長起來；因為耶和華上帝還沒有降雨在地上，也沒有人耕地，
2:6 但有霧氣從地上騰，滋潤遍地。
2:7 耶和華上帝用地上的塵土造人，將生氣吹在他鼻孔裡，他就成了有靈的活人，名叫亞當。

⁴ This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created, when the Lord God made the earth and the heavens.

⁵ Now no shrub had yet appeared on the earth and no plant had yet sprung up, for the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no one to work the ground, ⁶ but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground. ⁷ Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

在創世記有兩個創造故事，第一個是從1:1-2:3，第二個是由此開始，說到人的被造與犯罪的過程。在這裡說到上帝是用塵土造人，不僅如此上帝還給人氣息，使人成為「有靈的活人」，就是「有生命的個體」、「有呼吸的生物」，跟「靈」、「靈魂」沒有直接的關係！


論到人到底是二元（靈魂和身體）、還是三元結構（靈、魂、體），都很看重聖經說的「將生氣吹在他鼻孔裡」，他們常常將「靈」或「靈魂」講得很重要。其實在上帝的眼中，不管是二元或三元，祂看人是一體的，有看的見的外型和看不見之內在思想，是不可單獨存在。也就是說：不能只有內在、也不能只有肉身，必須是全人合一。

聖經沒有用靈魂不死的觀念，只說人死之後靈歸回上帝，所以復活是上帝重新為人建立一個身體，仍然是全人合一的復活，而不是投胎轉世的輪迴。而且基督信仰強調人只有一世，沒有好幾世，也因此我們要在今生今世好好的活，珍惜與把握現在！
