38:1 那時希西家病得要死，亞摩斯的兒子先知以賽亞去見他，對他說：「耶和華如此說：你當留遺命與你的家，因為你必死不能活了。」
38:2 希西家就轉臉朝牆，禱告耶和華說：
38:3 「耶和華啊，求你記念我在你面前怎樣存完全的心，按誠實行事，又做你眼中所看為善的。」希西家就痛哭了。
38:4 耶和華的話臨到以賽亞說：
38:5 「你去告訴希西家說，耶和華─你祖大衛的上帝如此說：我聽見了你的禱告，看見了你的眼淚。我必加增你十五年的壽數；
38:6 並且我要救你和這城脫離亞述王的手，也要保護這城。
38:7 「我─耶和華必成就我所說的。我先給你一個兆頭，
38:8 就是叫亞哈斯的日晷，向前進的日影往後退十度。」於是，前進的日影果然在日晷上往後退了十度。
In those days Hezekiah became sick and was at the point of death.
And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him, and said to him, "Thus
says the Lord:Set your house in order, for you shall die, you shall not
recover." Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the
Lord, and said, "Please, O Lord, remember how I have walked before you in
faithfulness and with a whole heart, and have done what is good in your
sight." And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
Then the word of the Lord came to Isaiah: "Go and say to
Hezekiah, Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: I have heard your
prayer; I have seen your tears. Behold, I will add fifteen years to your life. I
will deliver you and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria, and will
defend this city.
"This shall be the sign to you from the Lord, that the Lord
will do this thing that he has promised: Behold, I will make the shadow cast by
the declining sun on the dial of Ahaz turn back ten steps." So the sun
turned back on the dial the ten steps by which it had declined.

上帝雖然不是物質性的上帝，但是他卻能影響物質上的性質，就如希西家生病，上帝藉由物質可見的日晷的反應，讓人看見上帝可以「反」大自然的定律，因為祂有權能掌握這一切。但這不是要基督徒「反」科學，而是不要「迷信」科學。因為科學世人對發現自然的現象的作解釋。
正如人按命定都有一死，早死與晚死，終究要死，因為人的壽命有限，這是人無法否定的事。在基督再來以前人都要面對這樣的關卡，都不可逃避生、老、病、死。但是，上帝可以掌握這一切，所以祂可以讓希西家加增十五年的壽數，因祂是上帝！
今日，我們蒙上帝的恩典，在基督耶穌裡享受上帝所賜的永生。雖然肉體的生命有一天會有盡頭，但是上帝應許將來上帝國實現的時候，我們必定復活，就好像睡一覺就醒來了！所以耶穌說：「我實在告訴你，今日你要同我在樂園裡了。」
