their work, because that is their lot. For who can bring them to see what will

傳道者將活人受欺壓的感慨說出來，因為在人的中間的確有欺壓的事情，尤其是利益和權力衝突時，更是發生這樣的事情！因為照著人的罪性，是將自己放在最大，不會屈服在人的手下，除非有一些交換與收買，雙方有互利互惠，才能維持表面的和平，內在還是充滿角力。
而在人與人爭戰和競爭中，必定有勝出與失敗的，也因此產生了「勝者為王，敗者為寇」的情形。「為王」受到人的擁戴與巴結，受到萬人的注目和讚嘆。「為寇」者則受到排斥與唾棄，身邊只有寥寥幾人，沒有人關心與安慰。
傳道者感嘆這樣的事情，也道盡人冷暖，在他的感慨中覺得這樣是不好的事情！當然，面對到的人反倒無須太在意。因為高升與落下，都在上帝的手中，上帝要高舉誰就高舉誰，一切交在上帝手中，正如彼得說：「因為上帝阻擋驕傲的人，賜恩給謙卑的人。所以，你們要自卑，服在上帝大能的手下，到了時候，他必叫你們升高。你們要將一切的憂慮卸給上帝，因為他顧念你們。」（彼得前書5:5b-7）
不要憂慮沒有人安慰，上帝在基督裡的安慰勝過一切的安慰，就像耶穌的母親馬利亞的頌讚中說到：「他憐憫敬畏他的人，直到世世代代。他用膀臂施展大能；那狂傲的人正心裡妄想就被他趕散了。他叫有權柄的失位，叫卑賤的升高；叫飢餓的得飽美食，叫富足的空手回去。」（路加福音1:50-53）
