那鴻書2:1-4

2:1 尼尼微啊，那打碎邦國的上來攻擊你。你要看守保障，謹防道路，使腰強壯，大大勉力。

2:2 （耶和華復興雅各的榮華，好像以色列的榮華一樣；因為使地空虛的，已經使雅各和以色列空虛，將他們的葡萄枝毀壞了。）

2:3 他勇士的盾牌是紅的，精兵都穿朱紅衣服。在他預備爭戰的日子，戰車上的鋼鐵閃爍如火，柏木把的槍也掄起來了。

2:4 車輛在街上（或譯：城外）急行，在寬闊處奔來奔去，形狀如火把，飛跑如閃電。

The scatterer has come up against you.

Man the ramparts;

watch the road;

dress for battle;

collect all your strength.

  For the Lord is restoring the majesty of Jacob

as the majesty of Israel,

for plunderers have plundered them

and ruined their branches.

  The shield of his mighty men is red;

his soldiers are clothed in scarlet.

The chariots come with flashing metal

on the day he musters them;

the cypress spears are brandished.

  The chariots race madly through the streets;

they rush to and fro through the squares;

they gleam like torches;

they dart like lightning.

    尼尼微城因為亞述的強大而感到榮耀，可使在自滿之中，上帝已經又興起另一個強權。也因為如此，強大的帝國並不能永遠存在，因為一切的興亡在上帝手中，不是在政權手中。雖然人都想藉由各樣的制度，來維持強大的政權。

    也因此，人必須謙卑敬畏上帝，並且依靠上帝，正如猶大國雖然不是強權，甚至後來滅國，卻一直在上帝的保護之下，甚至到耶穌基督的時代，都還是具有國家的樣式，雖然在異族的統治下生存。

      所以，上帝的保護勝過一切！
