7:2 地上虔誠人滅盡；世間沒有正直人；各人埋伏，要殺人流血，都用網羅獵取弟兄。
7:3 他們雙手作惡；君王徇情面，審判官要賄賂；位分大的吐出惡意，都彼此結聯行惡。
7:4 他們最好的，不過是蒺藜；最正直的，不過是荊棘籬笆。你守望者說，降罰的日子已經來到。他們必擾亂不安。
The godly has perished from the earth,
and there is no one upright among mankind;
they all lie in wait for blood,
and each hunts the other with a net.
Their hands are on what is evil, to do it well;
the prince and the judge ask for a bribe,
and the great man utters the evil desire of his soul;
thus they weave it together.
The best of them is like a brier,
the most upright of them a thorn hedge.
The day of your watchmen, of your punishment, has come;
now their confusion is at hand.

先知在這裡說明了人的敗壞和無能，雖然人是照上帝的樣式和形象造的，只能和上帝類似，不能做到和上帝同等，這一方面是人的限制，另外一方面是人被罪惡敗壞了！
正如教義所說，人自從亞當夏娃犯罪之後，是全然敗壞！這是說人的靈魂和肉體都被罪惡汙染，沒有一處如同當初人受造時的無罪狀態。所以，人必須要被救贖，若沒有上帝的救贖是無法擺脫罪惡的污染的﹗
也因為這樣，在人間雖然有法庭和法官卻無法如同上帝公正，受到貪念和自私、勝制自以為是的影響，常常是不公正的判決，使正義無法彰顯，使惡人利用威脅和利誘來左右判決。
因此，人必須承認自己的無能和敗壞，來接受上帝的救贖，使自己脫離罪惡和死亡，享受永生之福﹗
