1:12 有一座山，名叫橄欖山，離耶路撒冷不遠，約有安息日可走的路程。當下，門徒從那裡回耶路撒冷去，
1:13 進了城，就上了所住的一間樓房；在那裡有彼得、約翰、雅各、安得烈、腓力、多馬、巴多羅買、馬太、亞勒腓的兒子雅各、奮銳黨的西門，和雅各的兒子（或譯：兄弟）猶大。
1:14 這些人同著幾個婦人和耶穌的母親馬利亞，並耶穌的弟兄，都同心合意地恆切禱告。
1:15 那時，有許多人聚會，約有一百二十名，彼得就在弟兄中間站起來，說：
1:16 「弟兄們！聖靈藉大衛的口，在聖經上預言領人捉拿耶穌的猶大，這話是必須應驗的。
1:17 他本來列在我們數中，並且在使徒的職任上得了一分。
1:18 這人用他作惡的工價買了一塊田，以後身子仆倒，肚腹崩裂，腸子都流出來。
1:19 住在耶路撒冷的眾人都知道這事，所以按著他們那裡的話給那塊田起名叫亞革大馬，就是「血田」的意思。
1:20 因為詩篇上寫著，說：願他的住處變為荒場，無人在內居住；又說：願別人得他的職分。
1:21 所以，主耶穌在我們中間始終出入的時候，
1:22 就是從約翰施洗起，直到主離開我們被接上升的日子為止，必須從那常與我們作伴的人中立一位與我們同作耶穌復活的見證。」
1:23 於是選舉兩個人，就是那叫做巴撒巴，又稱呼猶士都的約瑟，和馬提亞。
1:24 眾人就禱告說：「主啊，你知道萬人的心，求你從這兩個人中，指明你所揀選的是誰，叫他得這使徒的位分。這位分猶大已經丟棄，往自己的地方去了。」

1:26 於是眾人為他們搖籤，搖出馬提亞來；他就和十一個使徒同列。
12 Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem from the hill called the Mount of Olives, a Sabbath day’s walk[c] from the city. 13 When they arrived, they went upstairs to the room where they were staying. Those present were Peter, John, James and Andrew; Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew; James son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot, and Judas son of James. 14 They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brothers.
15 In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty) 16 and said, “Brothers and sisters,[d] the Scripture had to be fulfilled in which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through David concerning Judas, who served as guide for those who arrested Jesus. 17 He was one of our number and shared in our ministry.”
18 (With the payment he received for his wickedness, Judas bought a field; there he fell headlong, his body burst open and all his intestines spilled out. 19 Everyone in Jerusalem heard about this, so they called that field in their language Akeldama, that is, Field of Blood.)
20 “For,” said Peter, “it is written in the Book of Psalms:
“‘May
his place be deserted;
let there be no one to dwell in it,’[e]
and,
“‘May another take his place of leadership.’[f]
21 Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us, 22 beginning from John’s baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection.”
23 So they nominated two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. 24 Then they prayed, “Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen 25 to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs.” 26 Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so he was added to the eleven apostles.

在人看來馬提亞似乎不怎麼起眼的人，竟然可以代替猶大，列在十二位使徒當中。是不是覺得很奇怪？但是這件事情是十分重要的，讓我們認識成為使徒候選人的資格就是：「就是從約翰施洗起，直到主離開我們被接上升的日子為止，必須從那常與我們作伴的人中立一位與我們同作耶穌復活的見證。」
然而這第十二位使徒選出來之後，門徒的團體就恢復有十二位使徒，是一個完整的數目了！也因為這樣的一個事件，使主耶穌升天到聖靈降臨之間，有一個橋梁，也促成在五旬節時，使徒可以向過節的人有一個完美的見證！
親愛的弟兄姊妹，我們不要求自己的榮耀，要將榮耀歸上帝！十二使徒的出現不是為一個人的榮耀，也是為了上帝的榮耀！同樣今日教會按立牧者或牧者就任，也不是為了牧者個人的榮耀，而是要將榮耀歸給上帝，是上帝為教會設立良牧，使群羊可以歸在大牧者主耶穌的手下！
