4:1 耶和華說：以色列啊，你若回來歸向我，若從我眼前除掉你可憎的偶像，你就不被遷移。
4:2 你必憑誠實、公平、公義，指著永生的耶和華起誓；列國必因耶和華稱自己為有福，也必因他誇耀。
4:3 耶和華對猶大和耶路撒冷人如此說：要開墾你們的荒地，不要撒種在荊棘中。
4:4 猶大人和耶路撒冷的居民哪，你們當自行割禮，歸耶和華，將心裡的污穢除掉；恐怕我的忿怒因你們的惡行發作，如火著起，甚至無人能以熄滅！
1 "If you return, O Israel,
declares the Lord,
to
me you should return.
If you remove your detestable things from
my presence,
and
do not waver,
2 and if you swear, 'As the Lord lives,'
in truth, in justice, and in righteousness,
then nations shall bless themselves in him,
and
in him shall they glory."
3 For thus says the Lord to the men of
Judah and Jerusalem:
"Break up your fallow ground,
and sow not among thorns.
4 Circumcise yourselves to the Lord;
remove the foreskin of your hearts,
O men of Judah and inhabitants of
Jerusalem;
lest
my wrath go forth like fire,
and burn with none to quench it,
because of the evil of your deeds."

先知宣告上帝對以色列人的呼召，要他們回來歸向上帝，若從上帝眼前除掉他們可憎的偶像，上帝必定使他們不被遷移，必定在他們現在的土地上安居樂業，這是上帝堅定的應許！
上帝要求他們：「自行割禮，歸耶和華，將心裡的污穢除掉！」
上帝是聖潔的上帝，祂是恨惡罪惡的，就像上帝說的：「恐怕我的忿怒因你們的惡行發作，如火著起，甚至無人能以熄滅！」
當然他們悔改歸向上帝之後，他們必憑誠實、公平、公義，指著永生的耶和華起誓；列國必因耶和華稱自己為有福，也必因上帝誇耀。而我們今日是靠基督耶穌得到這樣的福分！上帝必因基督保守我們到底！
